Watkins Steel are finalists in the Lord Mayor’s Business Awards
Watkins Steel has been named a finalist in the Brisbane Times Award for Business Innovation. This award is one of 10 categories in the 2016 Lord Mayor’s Business Awards (LMBA), which acknowledges businesses that have made outstanding contributions to the continued growth of the Brisbane economy.
Watkins Steel has been shortlisted for this award by demonstrating innovation and competitiveness in the Australian steel manufacturing industry via the development of the “Watkins Steel Four Step Process”. This innovation is a unique end-to-end digital workflow that has seen the company shift from manual based processes to technology based processes across all facets of steel manufacturing and installation.
As Des Watkins, Director of Watkins Steel says, “We’ve been able to transform our entire company by developing a digital workflow for steel fabrication and installation that is the first of its kind in the national and global marketplace. For us, we believe that manufacturing in Australia is alive and well, and that you can be innovative by adopting new technologies.”
Being named as finalists in the Brisbane Times Award for Business Innovation has capped off a landmark year for Watkins Steel, after winning a global innovation award in New York earlier this year for the “Watkins Steel Four Step Process”. Proving that Australian manufacturing can be innovative on a global scale, Watkins Steel continues to refine and improve the “Watkins Steel Four Step Process” to include additional applications across 3D laser scanning and surveying.
Winners from each category of the 2016 Lord Mayor’s Business Awards will be announced at the Awards Gala Dinner on Friday 28th October 2016.
